Polar Opposites

I had a busy week, but I’m back with more belated NYFW coverage. Something that blog readers do not know about me is that I love Alexander Wang and Rodarte! I would definitely say these are always my favorites, but I know what you’re thinking… the two are not alike. Alexander Wang is tough and fixates on a mostly black color palette while Rodarte is so feminine. I like what I like and if you think of it, mixing feminine with tough is a great style combo.

Alexander Wang Fall 2011

Alexander Wang returns to black with his fall collection, though he does inject some peaches, gray and champagne for color. Wang also goes back to his cool downtown girl attitude which he has been known for. Through his eyes, fall looks a bit grunge which I don’t mind at all. He also played on mixing fur with some pieces like a blazer with fur sleeves (seen above), on sunglasses and as poofs on shoes. Also seen were metallics, awesome outerwear, tuxedo blouses and skirts that look like they’d been through a shredder.

Rodarte Fall 2011

Kate and Laura Mulleavy went country for the fall. The collection was modern Little House on the Prairie with long coats and dresses, apron-like pieces, patterned knits and featured a neutral color palette. Once again I found myself falling in love with styling of the hair, a messy confection parted to one side with structured side swept bangs. I say that The Mulleavy sisters always know how to make a dreamy collection.

I’m looking at another busy week, but I’m definitely gonna try to post more this week. Hopefully get a big (final) NYFW coverage post for next time to make way for more inspiring things. Have a great week lovelies! xo
